At the Lake

Our kids have some very special people in their life.

Two of those people are known to my kids as
"Uncle Marvin and Auntie Joan".

I have known Marvin since I was about 5 years old, and I remember when I was about 14, he brought a pretty girlfriend home from CUC,
she had such a big smile!

As time went by, Joan and I have grown into
"sisters by choice"

By the time my kids had attended play school type music lessons for several years, I decided that they would do just as well by taking lessons from their own "Auntie Joan" So for many years, she patiently tried to turn them into musicians!

Uncle Marvin and Auntie Joan have moved to California, and are teaching in a mission school right on the Mexican boarder.
BUT... each summer they come home for about a month.
When they get here, they spend much time boating and water skiing
on our beautiful lake.

As the saying goes, it's not what you know, but...
who you know!!!

So we are often privileged to join the Pinders for an afternoon at the lake!

Here are some pictures of our 2007 water outing.

Mai and Jere rented a wake board for the afternoon.

Jere was the first one to brave the "cold" water,

He got up, and had a nice long run
before we managed to make him take a "face plant"!

Then "little miss Mai" gave it a good try.

She got up...

and went down...

got up again...
She had a good time...

but the water was cold!!

Then it was Uncle Marvin's turn,

he isn't a wake boarder, but he did drop a ski, and did some slalom stuff!

We all had a good time!! Just look at all that beautiful water, how could we not have a great time.

Oh by the way, I never did get up, mostly because I wasn't about to get into that cold water, and make a fool of myself, watching was enough!!

Tour the Magic

In March of 2007, one of our Rental properties in Kelowna sold. It was then that we decided the way property values are going we should use that money to find a property out in the country now, and not wait until it is time to retire, by then the prices will be "out of this world". So I started on the internet, and seeing I have always wanted an acreage with a creek on it, I searched the "waterfront" properties. I found several, and a few days later we went to check them out. It turns out that the Realtor with all the listings in that area had one that didn't come up on my search, but she took us to see the one she thought we would love simply from our description of what we were looking for.

So in the end the property we bought is 8.2 acres, and has this lovely rented mobile home on the upper level. We are happy that the renters wanted to stay.

Some of these pictures (where the landscape is all brownish) were taken on April 1st when we first looked at the property, the snow was gone, but things hadn't started to brighten up yet.

Welcome to:

While driving south on Fiva Creek Rd S. the road actually goes through our property, here is a map to give you an idea of how things are laid out.
This is the first glimpse you get of our place, you can pretty much continue straight into our driveway while the road takes a curve and goes up the hill. Straight ahead you see a little bit of the cabin, and to the left is the corral and the small shed.

This is a different angle, but the same corral, where some day I will keep my donkey!! You can also see at the very top of the picture where the bank reaches the top, that is where the 1 acre is that is really unaccessible unless we get an easement from a neighbouring property.
Between the corral and the Cabin is this shed, which by first impressions can appear to be the "cabin" and the cabin actually looks more like a "small house"

There it is, that's our cabin! This was taken on the morning of June 14, on our way to Spokane for Ronald's wedding, (see my first post entitled "God's Hand" for details of what happened after we stopped here for breakfast that morning)

This picture is from the cabin looking back toward the road, on May 13 "Mothers Day" things were now in bloom!

Close up of that blooming tree in the last picture.

If you walk past the front of the cabin, and turn a little to your left, you will find the creek, and on your fist visit, you will think that this is the water falls. In April, with the snow still melting in the mountains, this was a roaring little creek, and we thought that this was "IT", but then the Realtor said, come lets go and see the falls.

So we followed her about 300 feet along the creek, and without to much foliage to get in our way, we were able to see the falls from quite a way back, and this is what we saw!!!

And still closer!!

Now lets take a look at what it all looks like in June! As you can see, the water isn't quite as dramatic, but the little pool behind the dam has some trout about 8 to10 inches long, and now you can see the green on all the bushes, it is much more beautiful then in April!

And we have our own beautiful model for advertising purposes.
This picture was taken from just beside the "dam" towards the cabin. In the distance behind a couple of trees you can see the "4-log bridge" that takes you over to the fire-pit area.
This is a view of the falls in the summer, but since then we have trimmed the tree that was bowing down over the falls, and cut off that tree that had been brought down during high water. It was quite a challenge, and Hector's complaint was that the water was "cold". He took off his shoes, socks, and pants, and went wading in there. Right at the bottom of the falls the water gets deeper, and when he managed to reach the tree, it is embedded into the gravel at the bottom, so luckily he had the chainsaw with him and we were able to cut it off, but we still would like to remove the stump, it will make the view much nicer.

Here is a distance view of the cleaned up creek. By walking across the rocks that are at the top of the lower part of the falls, you can get over to the other side, and that is where I would love to have a bench to sit on to watch and listen to God's Magic.

A closer look at all that "cool moss", it is such a comfortable place to be on a hot day.

Here that stump that we couldn't get out is pretty obvious, but someday soon it will be removed!!

There we go, can't get any closer then that!!
Sit for a moment and enjoy the view. Actually if you check my last post, you will be able to see the falls in action, it is pretty neat to watch the video.
